To foster a community that is safe, beautiful, and engaged. I am committed to enhancing public safety through proactive initiatives, encouraging meaningful civic engagement, and showcasing the natural beauty and uniqueness of our shared spaces to reflect our pride as Pontiac citizens.

Accomplishments

Milanna Jones is deeply passionate about community engagement, beautification, and public safety. As the chair of Pontiac's Economic Development, Housing, and Planning Subcommittee, she is dedicated to fostering workforce and economic development, addressing blighted areas in the city, working with colleagues to implement a community benefits plan, and acquiring detailed information on proposed ordinances and resolutions to share with the public. She strives to promote high standards of transparency in these processes.

 Accomplishments

August 2024 - December 2024

  • Successfully advocated for Pontiac's street sweepers to provide services in District 2.  

  • Advocated and voted to allocate additional ARPA funds to workforce development and literacy programs.

  • Advocated and voted to implement a second round of Small Business Grants to Pontiac businesses utilizing ARPA funds. 

  • Successfully implemented a District 2 Holiday Glow Showdown event with 33 nominees and three winners. 

  • Successfully implemented District 2's Winter Wheels Workshop, where 150 arctic preparedness packages were distributed to residents. Packages included blankets, de-icer spray, ice scraper/snow brush combos with Pontiac engraved on the ice scraper, and collapsible trash cans to promote cleanliness by keeping trash off the roads.

  • Actively participated in obligating all ARPA funds prior to the deadline. 

  • Provided approved and actively completed check-ins regarding Pontiac's Senior Chore Program. 

  • Performed outreach and supported Pontiac's Pride and Beautification Awards. 

  • Continuously advocates for the Pontiac Public Library to receive recognition and adequate funding opportunities. 

  • Provided approval for a Youth Recreation Center concept that is feasible for long-term operation within the city. 

 

January 2025 - Present

  • Voted to secure a redistricting map scheme that does not excessively divide communities throughout Pontiac.

  • Successfully hosted a Youth African American History forum, encompassing a progressive timeline of black history and African culinary experience for youth in Pontiac and Oakland county.

  • Designated Dawson Pond Park and Indian Village Park for upcoming renovations utilizing ARPA funding.

  • Launched District 2's Collaborate & Elevate meeting, an in-person and virtual opportunity for residents to discuss important issues and receive updates; serving as the second-monthly district 2 meeting for residents. 

  • Entered a partnership with Micah 6 Community to help facilitate the Huron Corridor clean-up event. 

  • Worked with Pontiac's DPW department to address areas where illegal dumping occurred. 

  • Voted in favor of supporting and launching Rx Kids in Pontiac.

  • Secured SEMCOG's Safe Streets complementary bundle for District 2. 

  • Aligned District 2's clean-up opportunity with the city's free landfill days for residents, providing 6 consecutive weeks where residents can dispose unused items for free to support the reduction of neighborhood blight. 

Future 
District 2 Projects 

2025

The upcoming projects for 2025 are below:

  • ​Beautifying District 2's Huron Corridor - continuing this project, initiated by Micah 6 Community to address remaining fire hydrants needing a fresh coat of paint, clean-up at Indian Village Park, and removing debris from roadways and alleys. 

  • Neighborhood Revitalization - branching to residential areas to refresh fire hydrants, install neighborhood signs, and decrease debris and blighted areas. 

  • Beautifying District 2's Telegraph Corridor - implementing a clean-up along the Telegraph corridor that includes debris removal, fire hydrant enhancements, and donating plants for store fronts with adequate planting accessibility. 

Residents' feedback will be imperative to the success of these initiatives.
